Year 1 have an exciting year of topics ahead of them. Theirlearning will take place through the following topics- ‘Autumn’, ‘The Gunpowder Plot’, ‘Out of this World’, ‘Under the Sea’, ‘Enchanted Woodland’ and ‘Rio de Vida’.
Trips will involve exploring the local area such as parks, shops and places of worship. The children will also visit the Sea Life Aquarium and explore local woodlands.
We teach a creative curriculum and try to make links across all curriculum subjects to ensure children have a meaningful context for learning.
In English, children will explore books such as The Snail and the Whale, The Man on the Moon- a day in the life of Bob, Leon and the Place Between. They will read traditional fairy tales and non-fiction books, poems and rhymes. Through these texts children will engage in writing activities such as instructions, recount, captions, diary entries and story writing.
In Maths, children will develop their problem- solving skills through the use of various resources enabling them to make links between the concrete and the abstract.
Children will have weekly Music lessons by a specialist music teacher- Mrs Peugniez and French lessons.
